RapidILL Book Chapters
RapidILL is not just for articles! Rapid participants also have
an option to enhance their resource sharing through the Rapid system by borrowing
and lending book chapters. Rapid book chapter participants see the same fast turnaround
times for book chapter requests as they do for articles. The unique request load-leveling,
holdings database, and workflow make Rapid book chapter lending streamlined and
efficient. Please contact Rapid staff to learn more about this service:

Rapid’s Role in the CRL-LHL Strategic Partnership
Earlier this year, CRL and the Linda Hall Library of Science,
Engineering
& Technology (LHL) formed a strategic partnership to preserve and develop
historical
research collections in the fields of science, technology, and engineering.
Beginning July 1, CRL libraries will have access to the combined CRL and Linda Hall
science, technology, and engineering (STE) print serials. These current and back
issues of over 50,000 journal titles acquired and maintained by CRL and Linda Hall
will be made available electronically through on-demand digitization and traditional
document delivery through the RapidILL service. CRL members currently enrolled in
RapidILL will receive the excellent 24-hour turnaround service provided by Rapid
beginning July 1. Non-RapidILL users will begin a special training by RapidILL at
the same time, with the goal of having all CRL libraries able to obtain service
from Linda Hall through Rapid by early December 2012.
Current RapidILL users will place requests as usual. Non-RapidILL libraries can
place requests through their ILL management system (such as Clio, ILLiad, Relais,
WCRS). A special pod will be created that will allow requesting as a CRL borrower
only. The request will then go to LHL for filling courtesy of CRL. If an institution
does not have an ILL management system, RapidILL will provide a requesting venue
to make service as seamless as possible.
There is no cost for CRL libraries’ use of this service through the partnership
arrangement. There is no cost to non-Rapid members for using the Rapid system. Note
that for requests sent directly to LHL the requesting institution will be charged
LHL’s
regular fee. For more information, libraries should contact CRL’s Access Services
staff.
